Flowers and tributes at the scene of a crash which claimed the life of Clacton biker Ronnie Sheehan
Ronnie Sheehan, a 36-year-old motorcyclist, died in a collision in Marine Parade East in Clacton on Wednesday, March 22.
Around 100 bikers turned up at the scene the day after the crash to pay their tributes, and now The Fossils Shop and Cafe – popular with bikers – is hosting a memorial ride on Sunday.
Colin Gentry, a neighbour of Mr Sheehan and from The Fossils Shop, said: “A ride-out wasn’t planned for this weekend, but because of the situation and as quite a few people could not make the event on Thursday, we thought we’d organise this so people can pay their respects.
“I’d known Ronnie for about four years, and for the last 12 months was a neighbour as well.
“He was a really lovely, top bloke, aways happy and smiling, and he never had a bad word to say about anyone.
“Ronnie was always the first to come and help if anybody needed it. He was a well-known and well-liked chap.
“He was very family-orientated, with a wife and four children.
“Sunday’s ride will be a good way for people to share memories and remember Ronnie.”
Bikes will meet at the cafe in St Osyth Road from 9.30am, with the ride setting out for the Bungalow Diner in Marks Tey shortly after 11am.
A crowdfunding page has also been set up in honour of Mr Sheehan by Chris Clements, who hopes the money will help Mr Sheehan’s family with funeral costs.
Mr Clements said: “I’ve not known him that long but we used to ride out to Great Bentley for the meets.
“He was really nice, you could not fault him. He would always have something good to say and have a laugh.
“The biker community is so tight-knit, everyone is willing to help out, so knowing a lot of people had known him for a long time it made sense to set up the page.”
A 37-year-old van driver from Clacton, arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, has been released on police bail until Friday, June 30, pending further enquiries.
